    I remember reading a translated Japanese novel that had a scene about a firefly festival held in a park. Cages of fireflies were for sale, and at some point, all the fireflies were to be released. I imagine it would be quite a spectacle. I've been racking my brain trying to remember which novel it was, but no luck so far.

    I remembered the novel: "The Lake" by Yasunari Kowabata. I was wrong about the firefly festival-- caged fireflies were for sale, but as souvenirs. There was a huge cage of fireflies on a tower, and those fireflies were to be released when it was dark, to be caught by spectators.
