Krisztina's mailart shows a loaf of bread with a message of hope. The ribbon across the top has the colors of the Hungarian flag (yes, I had to look it up), and notice the flag of Japan in the bottom corner. Bright, cheerful, and brimming with "hope."

torma cauli (hungary)
Torma always sends me mailart that uses cool pictures from antique Asian art. This postcard seems to have been made from a print of an old art scroll illustrating a Japanese (or possibly Chinese?) folk tale. It fits perfectly into my rabbit mailart call. Thanks, Torma!

In addition to the intriguing recipe, this folded card from Torma has many special details: It is recycled from a Hungarian Museum of Ethnography Budapest invitation, and on the back are two views of an Ainu garment (I happen to be involved in Ainu folktale research). The postage stamp on the envelope celebrates Hungary-Japan relations with a view of Mt. Fuji.
